Session 20

In this session i was carrying on making the sound tracks for our Project in MovieStorm, i was also making clips for lee to use for our end credits.

Lee was making the final touch ups for the editing on the project and creating the end credits

Session 14+15

In this session I was making music in garageband to be the background sound for our moviestorm project, when creating the music i had to have two different genres of music i had to have fast paced music for the action scenes and slow for the dramatic scenes.

while i was doing this Lee was making the start credits for the project.

Session 13

In this session Lee and I decided to think and write down the dialogue for our project, to do this we went into an empty quiet room with a microphone and do the voices for the characters, i was the character Kevin and one of our fellow pupils Ashleigh Holding was the character Katy. i think this session went really well.

Session 8+7

In this session i was working on Character actions for set 2

While doing this Lee was working on storyboards and what angles the scenes should be shot.

session 6+7

Lee was absent for this session therefore i was creating actions for the characters in the directors view.

i was focused on getting all the character actions done for set 1 and i completed this goal.

The Affair-Session 4+5

in this session it was mine and Lees main focus to complete the treatment and think carefully on who our target audience is, we had to consider what the content material we had in our project and what age it would be suitable for.

The Affair-Session 2+3

During this session Lee was Focused on creating the script for our MovieStorm Project. While Lee was doing this i was carrying on creating the characters and now making the final touches to their appearances, while doing this i was also filling in the character sheets.

The Affair-Session 1

In this session Lee and I were thinking of ideas for characters and settings that will be in our story line called 'The Affair'. While we were doing this Lee was creating a mood board. after we had finished talking through each others ideas i started to rough ideas of characters on MovieStorm.

Session 1-Initial Ideas

in the first session Lee and I were thinking of ideas for what we should base our short film on. at first we were thinking of doing a music video but then it would take too long and be too much work for us too handle so instead we deciding to think of another story line and we came up with 'The Affair', the story line of our short film is that a character finds his wife having an affair with a younger male and decides to take action.

End Sequence-Guns N Diamonds

This is our final end sequence which has been edited and has all the music attached onto it.
the feedback we got from our fellow class members was good, most of them liked the parkour scenes although they said it could be longer and could have introduced our undercover cop character. the class members also liked the scene when I hit the camera and it blacked out. the audience also like the sound effect of when lee hits jack in the face. another thing that the audience liked the adult hood shot where we used a dolly to spin the camera from jack to lee.

the things our audience said we could improve on was the music tracks in the sequence. this was because they couldnt hear the dialogue aswell if the music was turned down abit. they also said that the characters could have better costumes and be more dynamic than just plan clothes.

Friday 21st January

session 15 & 16
todays two sessions were dedicated to giving our end sequence its final little touches. such as making sure the music made sense and that the sound effects were in the right place. we also had a problem today the beginning of the sequence there is a slow drum beat but jack and lee did not like the sound of it so we had to change it to something else that still makes sense in the scene and fits the genre of the sequence

Thursday 20th January

session 13 & 14
These two sessions consisted of the same thing me and jack were thinking about sound effects to use with our fight scenes and was making more tracks that have relevance to our scenes that were shot for the end sequence. the problem we had with the music and sound is with the wind because it interferes with the dialogue sometimes but it wasn't a major problem.

Thursday, 20 January 2011

Wednesday 18th January

Session 12 & 13
session 12 consisted of tidying up the editing of scenes and giving it its final touches. also jack the editor sent me the final piece so that i could add the music and sound effects in time for when they are needed, but in session 12 i was only adding the tracks in.

session 13 i was making sound effects such as punching noises, i did this by using my mouth as a hitting sound but that did not work very well so instead i hit my fist into the palm of my hand which gave a very realistic sound to being hit in the face.

Tuesday 18th January

Session 10 & 11
this day we filmed the location rest of location 3 shots with the fight scene between The gang leader and undercover police officer, this went really well becuase we got the right camera angles so the fight looked real.
in session 11 me and jack were editing together but just a rough cut to make sure all the shots go together correctly

Monday 17th January

session 9
this day we were meant to film the rest of location 3 but it was raining so we had a production meeting and all agreed that the filming should be cancelled due to weather and health and safety reasons. so instead me and jack tidied up the editing of our previous shots and i was making more tracks for our scenes.

Wednesday, 19 January 2011

Friday 14th January

Session 5 & 6

in session 5 we were filming the parkour scenes that were in location 3 which was in long road car park, we did not have any difficulties in fimling these scenes, our best shots were when we were using the filming chair. Jack pushed lee along the path when he was sitting in the chair and they filmed along me while i was running past the cars.

in session 6 jack was uploading the shots we had taken to the imac so they could be edited with the previous shots on Final Cut Express, while jack was doing this i was making tracks for our scenes without sound.

Thursday 13th January

Session 4 & 5
This day we were editing our location shots that we had filmed in previous sessions. In the 5th session we were filming location 3 with the gang leader fights and also taking stills to make evidence for our portfolio. we had also decided in session 5 that we were going to change locations from Ely to long road car park for the fact it would be easier to film and will take less time.

Monday, 17 January 2011

Wednesday 11th January

this session was dedicated to getting the production planning sorted. we started out with making sure we had the right locations, for the parkour scenes i was going to film them in ely but that seemed to complicated so instead we decided to film it in the long road car park because it would be easier and would take less time. also in this session we were trying to find props for our end sequence, we looked on ebay to find a fake diamond and two fake guns that realistic for our film.

Tuesday 10th January

this day we were filming location one where jack is holding the diamond and making a phone call to an anonymous number.
we did not have much problem with shooting these scenes, the only problems we had was the noise of people around us. you cam sometimes hear people rustling around, when editing we could hear this and you couldn't quite here much of the dialogue so we had to film it again when there was no one in our location.

Tuesday, 11 January 2011

Camera testing

for our end sequence we are going to use my camera, but before we started filming our first scene i had to test the quality of my video camera to make sure it was up to standards from the college cameras and will be good enough quality to be on a cinema screen.

i took a 37 second video of the class room pupils then imported it onto the laptop, looked at it on quicktime but there was lines across the screen so i imported it into final cut express to see if it was any better which it was, after doing that i had to look at what PAL it was and was a compression to 720 which was fine for our project.

SAATCHI EXHIBITION

The Saatchi Gallery is a London gallery for contemporary art, opened by Charles Saatchi in 1985 in order to exhibit his collection to the public. It has occupied different premises, first in North London, then the South Bank by the River Thames and currently in Chelsea. Saatchi's collection, and hence the gallery's shows, has had distinct phases, starting with U.S. artists and minimalism, moving to the Damien Hirst-led Young British Artists, followed by shows purely of painting and then returning to contemporary art from America in USA Today at the Royal Academy in London. In 2008, an exhibition of contemporary Chinese art formed the inaugural exhibition in the new venue for the gallery at the Duke of York's HQ.

charles Saatchi is the co-founder with his brother Maurice of the global advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi, and led that business - the world's largest advertising agency in the 1980s - until they were forced out in 1995. In the same year the Saatchi brothers formed a new agency called M&C Saatchi. Charles is also known worldwide as an art collector and owner of the Saatchi Gallery, and in particular for his sponsorship of the Young British Artists (YBAs), including Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.

the saatchi gallery have diffrent types of art each year but most of them are models instead of paintings also things used in every day life that has been recycled to make the art.

Adulthood

People
there aren't many big names on this poster except for the director who is well known for his east end gang films.

Design
the design is quite plain its just the main characters all in there gang looking hard.

Colour
there isnt really much colour to the poster, and the colour that is on the poster is dark to give the impression that it as a dark and mysterious film. the characters costumes are quite bright this makes them stand out from the dark colours in the back ground.

Title
the title is the largest font on the poster which means it is easy to read and stands out from the rest of the font on the poster, it also cacthes your eye as you walk past the the poster.

Other Information
there is not really much more information on the poster it is just a plain poster with a title and characters showing themselves to the public.

District B-13

People
There are two main characters in the poster who are also the main characters of the film. David Belle who is a well known Parkour athelete through the French country and to the work of free running and parkour. The other main character is Cyril Raffeilli who is a well known actor in France.

Design
the design is very hectic, there is alot of things going on in the poster with small details of scenes that are within the movie. the poster conveys a mood of action, like if you see this film alot will happen that will blow your mind.

Colour
the poster is covered with dark colours to give it a mystery look an example of if you look at this poster and you like what you see and want to find out what its about you have to go and watch the film and look and see how good it is. again the colours have been chosen to give it a mysterious look so it will make people go and see the film.

Title
the title is in a big bold font and in a style that will grab your attention and fits in with the scenery of the film. the text is really easy to read becuase it is big, bold and is a diffrent colour to the whole poster so does not conflict with any other text.

Other Information
there are reviews on the poster showing that the public should go and watch the film becuase they have given it good reviews and stars that are highly rated.

Snatch Poster

People
there are many well known celebrities in this film, such as 'Jason Statham' who is a very well known English actor who has starred in many action thriller films. another example is 'Brad Pitt' who is a very well known American actor, Brad Pitt being in an English film will make the public want to watch the film and see how he handles his character within the film. There is also another person in the film that will attract people to watch it. This person is 'Guy Ritchie' who is a very well known English director known for his films.

Design
the poster design is quite plain but it is still effective. the poster shows a few of the characters that are in the film. although it is plain it still catches your eye because of the well known actors, if you see a large poster of Brad Pitt it will catch your eye because you want to see what the latest film he is starring in.

Colour
there are only 3 main colours in the poster, they are white, black and a reddish colour on the characters. these aren't outstanding colours but again its the characters that catch the publics eye when looking at the poster.

Title
The title 'Snatch' is the largest font on the poster this is to make the title stand out on the poster and to stand out from all the other text. The text being big and bold makes it easier to read which is a good thing because people won't confuse it with other movies that have a similar name.

Other Information
The tagline is very effective 'stealin' stones and breakin' bones' this is a good tagline becuase that is really the storyline, stealing diamonds and getting in fights. the poster does not have a release date on it.

The Meeting Write Up

with this video task it was mainly about dialogue shots and making sure they have a good continous speed. when shooting our clips again we used clapper boards because it was easier to organise the shots when editing on final cut. when shooting our scenes we did them in order of the story board instead of doing all the dialogue in the same shot.
my main contribution to the video was filming the shots and directing the actors and showing them what they needed to do and what was going to happen in the shot. the editing process was quite easy this is because we shot all the scenes in the right order so it was easy to put them in order on the timeline. also having the clapper boards at the start of the shots made it easier to organize them in order.

James Ward- Special Effects Make-up Artist

James Started of with putting a head cap to stop the models hair from going into the substance that was being put on to his face. after doing this James started to mix two moulds to make a self set glue that was going to be applied onto the models face. when applying the self set glue onto the models face James used polythene gloves not latex this is because it spoils the silicone that made the self set glue. The self set glue/silicone that James was using was made by a company called life-form that made mould life. after applying the silicone to the models face he applyed plaster cast ontop of the mould life to keep it in shape. after everything had set he carefully pulled away the mask from the models face to reveal the models facial features inside the mould life.

Match On Action Shot

this is when you cut during an action to another camera angle but showing action from the same point in time that you left it form the previous shot.

180 Degrees rule

this is the 180 degrees rule, this cuts through the middle of the scene, from side to side with respect to the camera, crossing the line changes the viewers perspective is such a way it may cause disorientation.

phonecall sequence

this is my finished phone call sequence

editing finished

this is my finished phone call film, i have finished all of my editing, as you can see the shots no longer have clapper boards at the beginning because i have cut them out of the shots.

this is the start of my editing to the phone call project. as you can see from the image above we started of the shot with clapper boards of the numbered shots, we did this because it would be easier to find the shots we needed to put in order

Monday, 18 October 2010

phone call editing

this is a screen grab of my phone call project this is halfway through editing
as you can see to make it easier to see which shot is which we used clapper boards at the start of each shot.

Target Audience

My target audience person is a skater. He enjoys going up to the skatepark and shredding up the park. if it is a rainy day he will sit at home and watch the extreme sports channel. This target audience is into the popular skate branded clothes and shoes. They aren't really into films unless they are about playing pranks on people or just doing insane stunts. the films they are into are about there way of life skateboarding.

Find Your Tribe

I took the tribe test and my result was skater. i think this is true about myself becuase i enjoy going down to my local skatepark and just riding around. The most clothes i wear are skinny jeans and a hoddie with high tops. if i see police coming i stand my ground if i know i have done nothing or leg it if they want to kick me out of my skate spot.

Definition of a skater!
You are a Skater! You go on the rule ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ Skater culture stays the same – as long as there is concrete to grind, trainers to ruin and rock to rock to. You like the implicit rebellion of skating in the urban jungle – and regularly record your stunts to show other skaters what you’re up to – but you would run a mile if you saw the police heading to your latest spot. You don’t want no trouble.

film production logo

L2 IDENT BEN from cmdiploma on Vimeo.

this is my film production logo that I have created to go at the beggining of future films i shall be making for my media diploma.

the things i have learnt in doing this project is editing clips in final cut express for example: fading in and out, making new filters.
the things i found difficult was trying to think about what soundtrack i should have to back up my graphics.

i did not find anything difficult with photoshop as i have used it before in GCSE Photography.
i was most please with the outer glow of my logo becuase it really stands out from the background.
